Day 13 - Leaving Rapid City to hit Wall, SD and to head back East.

We woke up early to get on the road, this is is a 13 hour drive day. So we headed to Wall, SD, home of the famous Wall Drug store...

From here we thought it was going to be just driving.... We were supposed to get to outside Chicago for the night, but that was not to be the case.  We drove for a while going along just fine.  We stopped at a Walmart to pick up snacks and Jer got some supplies to solve the break issue once and for all, we filled up with gas and were on our way.  After a couple of hours we pulled over for a bathroom break and a driver change so that Jer could get some sleep, but that was not to be.

As I was walking around the front of the bus I noticed a stream of fluorescent green coming from under the bus.  I went to the drivers side door, and poor Jer who was already laying down was summoned once again.  He asked, "What's up?" To which I replied, "I don't believe this should be happening..." as I pointed to the antifreeze on the pavement.

We all went into repair mode and got a bucket under the engine to collect all of the fluid that we could and we got out the bin of tools....

Having figured out that one of the tubes had rubbed next to something hot and gotten a hole Aidan and Jer collected all of the fluid and unhooked the little blue car and went to the closest town (40 minutes away) to get the supplies they would need to fix it.  The rest of us hung out in the bus and chilled. It was a lovely rest stop as many are in the midwest.  It had covered picnic areas, benches and nice little walk around areas.  After about an hour and a half Jer and Aidan returned and Mal and I were able to supervise the fixing of the bus.

Once fixed we were back on the road.  With the time lost to the repairs we cancelled our hotel for the night and the plan was to drive straight through - after all we had plenty of drivers.  But the universe had other plans for us.

While I was driving around 11 pm or so the lights started flashing on and off.  That would be the head lights.  I again roused Jer from his slumber.  Jer and Aidan came around to the front and with the light of an iPhone I popped the hood for them to check it out.  With nothing obvious to fix, flicked on the hazards and navigated us to the next truck stop only a few miles down the road were we bedded down to await dawn to continue our voyage.

I do believe that the universe was trying to keep us in the West, but alas, we had obligations to fulfill and so we had to carry on.
